The Circumstances
It began with a dream to purchase a home with intentions of renovating the unfinished attic into a master bedroom with an ensuite. Instead, they were forced to sell a house unsafe to live in.
After purchasing the home, they started their renovation project full of hope and excitement. But soon they discovered the previous owners made damaging errors. Sadly, they cut the floor joist. A home inspector shut the job down and they turned to homeowners’ insurance for help.
Being forced out of their home for safety reasons, they had to live in a hotel for months while they made repairs. Before they could complete their initial dream renovations, they had to bring it back to code in good condition.
Meanwhile, trouble continued with a confusing permit process the homeowners weren’t familiar with. Unfortunately, this proved to be too much for them to manage. Unable to finish home renovations, family tensions grew to the point of irreconcilable differences. With repairs incomplete, their only option to sell a house unsafe to live in was as-is.
First, they attempted to sell the home with a real estate agent. Because of the condition of the home, this was challenging. Financing was impossible to secure through regular banks, so homebuyers needed personal finances to close the sale.
As a result, there were no offers through MLS. Hope was dwindling.
The Plan
MJS Properties rescued this family and offered hope for them to move forward. First, Matt put his extensive construction knowledge to good use and got proper permits. This isn’t something all real estate investors possess. Then he began returning this newly gained investment property to safe living standards.
Finally, he completed the beautiful transformation of the attic into a stunning master bedroom with an extra-large master bath. It outshone even the previous homeowners’ dreams.
Skylights captured the home’s natural angles to allow fresh new light into this home with such a sad past. He replaced windows, refinished floors, and painted the cabinets. Then Matt tackled the exterior for curb appeal.
He removed two large sheds, creating an eyesore. Then he cleaned the garage and installed a new door. Finally, he spruced up the yard and replaced the front porch. The home was absolutely gorgeous and sure to make an easy home sale now.
The Results
Relieved to find a buyer, the previous owners could move on to their next chapter, quickly putting the nightmare behind them.
